Trinity Nonprofit Agency: United Neighborhood Center of Milwaukee (UNCOM)
I served with Lutheran Volunteer Corps in Washington, DC from 2008 to 2009. I worked as the Activities Coordinator for Rachael’s Women’s Center, a day center for women experiencing homelessness in the nation’s capital. At Rachael’s, I organized field trips, arts and crafts, and educational opportunities for the women that we served, in addition to assisting with the daily services of the center. From 2009 to 2011, I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Playworks Washington, DC. In my position as the DC Community Engagement Coordinator, I designed and implemented a local volunteer program to support the Playworks school based play and recess model. I also assisted with fund development and event planning.
As a Trinity Fellow, I was placed at the United Neighborhood Centers of Milwaukee. As the UNCOM Program Support Specialist, I provided support to UNCOM’s Violence Prevention Initiative, Milwaukee Childhood Obesity Prevention Project, UNCOM agency communications, and community agency outreach. Working at UNCOM while studying the nonprofit sector as a part of the Public Service program gave me the opportunity to apply what I was learning in the classroom to the work being done at the UNCOM.
I have been hired as the Manager of Special Projects at the United Neighborhood Centers of Milwaukee. In this position, I direct the UNCOM Initiative for Healthy Families working to improve birth outcomes in the neighborhoods served by UNCOM agencies. I also provide administrative and planning assistance to the Violence Prevention Initiative, Milwaukee Childhood Obesity Prevention Project, UNCOM Youth Affinity Team, and the UNCOM Board of Directors.
