Finding MAC addresses for common devices

Before you can register your gaming consoles, smart TVs, digital media players and other devices for the MU Open Wi-Fi network, you'll need to find its MAC address — short for Media Access Control. Follow these instructions for commonly used student devices.

Apple TV

  1. Go to the Apple TV home screen and select Settings.
  2. Select General then select About.
  3. Look for "Wi-Fi Address."

Fire TV / Stick (Amazon)

  1. From the Main Menu, go to Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Then go to About.
  4. Toggle down to Network.
  5. Look for the MAC Address (Wi-Fi).

Nintendo Switch

  1. From the HOME menu, select System Settings.
  2. Scroll down through the menu and select Internet.
  3. The Nintendo Switch console's MAC address will be listed under "System MAC Address."

Nintendo Wii

  1. Press the A button on your remote to reach the Wii Menu.
  2. Use the Wii Remote to select the Wii button.
  3. Select Wii Settings.
  4. Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select Internet.
  5. Select Console Information.
  6. The MAC address will show at the top of the screen.

Nintendo Wii U

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.
  2. Using the left stick, select the Internet icon and press the A button.
  3. Select View MAC Address and wait for a moment for the MAC address to be displayed.

PlayStation 3

  1. In the XMB home menu, go to Settings then System Settings and press the [X] button.
  2. Scroll down until you see "System Information" and press the [X] button.
  3. You will then see the MAC address.

PlayStation 4

  1. Navigate to the Settings icon.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select System Information.
  4. You will then see both MAC addresses listed (one for Wi-Fi and one for LAN cable).

Roku

  1. Go to Settings and hit OK.
  2. Select System and hit OK.
  3. Then select About and hit OK.
  4. You will see the MAC address of both the wireless and wired connection, depending on the device.

Xbox One

  1. Navigate to My Games & Apps.
  2. Select Settings then All Settings.
  3. In the settings pane, select Network then Network Settings.
  4. Select Advanced Settings.
  5. You will see both wired and wireless MAC addresses listed.

Xbox 360

  1. Navigate to My Xbox on the Xbox Dashboard.
  2. Select System Settings.
  3. Select Networking Settings.
  4. Select Configure Network.
  5. Go to Additional Settings.
  6. Select Advanced Settings.
  7. The MAC address for the wired and wireless adapters will appear.
