Financial Aid Transferability & Program Types

The type of program that you select will often affect your financial aid package. It is very important to meet with a financial aid counselor before studying abroad so that you are aware of the financial impact of your study abroad decision.

Generally speaking, there are four categories of programs, each affecting financial aid differently:

Marquette University Sponsored Programs

Marquette University sponsored programs include:

Most forms of financial aid including grants, scholarships and federal financial aid may apply to Marquette-sponsored programs.

Marquette University Exchange Programs

Marquette offers more than 20 exchanges with universities abroad and in Puerto Rico. Under these agreements, students pay tuition to Marquette but study at a partner university abroad. Most forms of financial aid apply.

Marquette University-Affiliated Programs

Programs Administered by Marquette University

These are direct partnerships with institutions abroad. Under these agreements, students do not pay Marquette tuition; instead they pay the tuition of the sponsoring institution. In many cases, the bill still comes from Marquette. Grants and scholarships do not apply; however, federal financial aid can be used for these affiliated programs.

Programs Sponsored by Other Institutions

These are partnerships with other US-based study abroad program providers. Under these agreements, students do not pay Marquette tuition; instead, they pay tuition to the sponsoring institution. Marquette grants and scholarships do not apply; however, federal financial aid can be used for these affiliated programs.

Important Notes

  • For all other programs which are not affiliated with Marquette, please check with a study abroad coordinator for approval.

  • Federal financial aid applies to approved outside programs.
