MEXICO STUDY
ABROAD PROGRAMS

The Country - Mexico

A close neighbor, yet a world away, Mexico is a vibrant country that is as complex and diverse as its signature mole. From modern cities to the ancient Mayan, Aztec and Zapotec civilizations, Mexico is a great place to explore Latin American culture and history in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Mexico's varied political and cultural history has created a nation where affluence, poverty, beautiful beaches and urban life walk hand in hand. Whether students wish to study the Spanish language, sustainable development, engineering, economics or history - Mexico teaches it all.

The University- Tecnológico de Monterrey

The Technológico de Monterrey system, founded in 1943, has study abroad opportunities at numerous campuses across Mexico. The nine cities in which students can study are scattered across the country:

Each school offers a variety of classes in the humanities and sciences, and students will have several opportunites to get involved on campus and off.

Courses offered

Marquette students can choose from a wide range of courses within communication, engineering, humanities, sciences and the social sciences. A typical course load is five to six courses or around 15 credits. Students can expect to have about 12 hours of class per week. To see specific offerings, please visit the individual campus pages on the Tecnólogico de Monterrey website.

Historic course equivalencies

Please note that the courses listed here have been approved in general for Marquette credit.  However, because each individual academic record is unique, depending on the college, the major and courses taken previously, not every course will qualify to be used toward a Marquette degree.  Therefore, current Marquette students must have prior approval from the their college office, before enrolling in these courses.  Without this prior approval, any course taken at another institution will likely not be accepted toward the Marquette degree.

Housing

Students can elect to stay in the residence halls, in a homestay or secure independent lodging.

dates

Students are able to study at Tec de Monterrey for a semester, a full year. Typically the fall semester is August to December and the spring semester is January to May. Specific dates will vary per campus selected.

Visa & Travel

A visa is required only for stays of more than six months.

Students participating in this program are expected to make their own flight arrangements. You must wait until you have been officially accepted to the program before purchasing airline tickets. Student Universe (www.studentuniverse.com) and STA Travel (www.statravel.com) are two travel agencies that can often help students find flexible, discounted tickets.
