Immerse yourself
You will get to know Spanish students just like you! Through the Study Center’s optional intercambios, or language exchanges, you will have the opportunity to interact with Spanish students studying English at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras. And if that’s not enough, lace up your tennies and join the Club de Deportes, through which you’ll be able to participate in university intramural soccer, rugby, basketball and other sports.
Throughout your learning experience and adventure in Spain, Marquette staff will give you personal attention — from your initial inquiry to your program time to your reacclimation to the States.
Universidad Complutense
The Marquette program makes its home in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid — one of Spain’s largest and most prestigious universities. As a student, you’ll integrate yourself into campus life through daily contact with Spanish faculty, students and staff. You’ll also have complete usage of Complutense’s facilities — libraries, computers, sports fields and cafeterias — as well as cultural and academic events sponsored by the university and its affiliates.
Student Life in Madrid
For more than 30 years, students from around the United States have been attending the Marquette University Study Center in Madrid. You, too, can explore this opportunity to live and learn the Spanish language and culture in the heart of one of Europe's greatest cultural capitals.
Whether it’s for the fall semester, spring semester or entire academic year, you will be immersed in all this exciting city has to offer:
- Enjoy walking, jogging or studying in del Retiro Parque, a favorite spot for Study Center students.
- See some of the world’s artistic masterpieces at the Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.
- Shop in the markets and small stores.
- Sample Spanish cuisine in the many restaurants, cafés and tapas bars.
- Experience Spanish culture at festivals and through theatre, music, dance and movies.
- Madrid has an excellent mass transit system, so getting to these places is a snap.
Madrid has all the things you would expect from one of the world’s cultural capitals, but its small-town feel may surprise you. The neighborhoods of Madrid, where you’ll live, are warm places, each with their own charm.
Overnight Excursions
There are plenty of opportunities for you to explore Spain and become familiar with the Spanish language and culture. The resident director will organize overnight and cultural excursions, which are included in program tuition.
Recently, students have experienced the regions and culture of Spain on trips to Asturias, Barcelona, Córdoba, La Coruña, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Sevilla and Toledo.
