Xalapa, the state capital of Veracruz, is known as the "City of Flowers." It has the easy-going pace of a provincial city, and its beautiful parks, woodlands and variety of flowers add to its relaxed ambiance. At the same time, its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture and surrounding mountains create a unique and unforgettable charm.
Xalapa is aptly called the "Athens of Veracruz." This university city offers students many cultural options, such as the internationally reknowned Xalapa Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Xalapa's outstanding Museum of Anthropology provides the students with an in-depth look at the history of the four great Pre-Columbian civilizations of the area: Olmec, Totonac, Huastec and Pinome.
Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the beautiful hiking areas, beaches, and the nearby Texolo Waterfall (filming site for the movie Romancing the Stone). Students also have access to sport facilities at the Universidad Veracruzana, including an Olympic-size swimming pool, a track and field stadium, basketball courts and a soccer stadium.
Xalapa is large enough to provide the necessary health, educational and recreational services, yet small enough to offer personal hospitality.
