Who can study there?
Students with a minimum Junior standing and strong Spanish language skills (9 credits beyond SPAN 004) may study through this program.
What are the programs dates?
The fall term runs from mid-September to mid-January, while the spring term runs from late January to early July.
Do I need to know Spanish?
All courses are taught in Spanish, and you are required to complete 9 credits beyond SPAN 004 or SPAN 010 before enrolling in this program. However, you may be able to find a few courses in English.
Will my financial aid transfer?
Because this is a Marquette-exchange program, most financial aid generally applies. To learn more about how this program will affect your specific financial aid package, please see the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Do I need a visa? How do I get a visa?
Yes, you will need to apply for your visa two months in advance.
Do I need vaccinations before I travel?
Visit the Center for Disease Control's Traveler's Health Web site and/or SOS International for vaccination information.

Who will my classmates be?
Your classmates will come from Spain, other European countries and the rest of the world.
How many classes are taken per semester, on average?
The number of classes can range from 5 to 6 depending on the program.
How many credits can I earn?
An average of 15 to 18 credits can be earned.
What subjects are offered?
Economics, Business, Business Law, Marketing, Finance, Management, International Business, Ethics, Spanish for foreigners, and Arts and Sciences courses are a few. A complete list of classes will be available when you apply.
Will my grades transfer? What are passing grades?
Duesto grades on a 10 point basis, with 10 being the highest. In order to gain transfer credit, you will need to obtain a score of 6 or better, with 6 equal to a C, 7 a B, 8 an AB, and 9-10 an A at Marquette. Please note that grades do not transfer, only credits do.
Where will I live?
The campus at San Sebastian is much smaller than Marquette, and also rather different. Similar to a commuter’s college in the states, there are no dormitories. Most students live at home, and a few rent out apartments or flats. You will live in an apartment or shared flat arraged by the university housing agency. Contact Dr. Hosseini for more detailed information.
Is there an orientation?
Yes, Deusto hosts a welcome orientation for new students, including campus tours. You will receive more information prior to departure. An intensive Spanish language course is also available before the semester starts.

What is public transportation like?
San Sebastian has a bus transportation system but most places are within walking distance. Bilbao has a well-developed transit system, with two types of trains. However, walking is the most popular way to get around the city.
How do I get around?
If you want to travel around the country as well as around Europe, your best option is the train transportation system. San Sebastian, Bilbao and Biarritz (France) also have conveniently located airports.
What will the weather be like?
Temperatures are must more mild and constant in Spain than Wisconsin. While the winters do get cold, the temperatures usually do not go below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The seasons are opposite of here. Also, rain is extremely common, so it is vital that you bring an umbrella and a raincoat.
What is the cost of living compared to the United States?
San Sebastian is one of the most expensive cities in Spain, so be prepared with extra “emergency” cash. On the other hand, cost of living in Spain itself is relatively similar to that of the United States when variances between different products are taken into account.
How can I find out more about the city?
San Sebastian is a mesmerizing city with beautiful green fields, mountains, and three beaches. Nightlife is a large attraction among students, and there are a wide variety of locations to choose from. Located in northern Spain, in the Basque country, you may almost feel a unique identity from the rest of Spain. There are two languages, although Spanish is most common and known by all. Contrary to the large city life of Madrid, the Basque country is a bit more relaxed and peaceful. For those who love traveling, it is only 15 minutes away from France by car.
