Who can study there?
Coursework is offered for most majors. Minimum Junior standing, 2.75 GPA, and 9 credits beyond GERM 004 are required.
What are the programs dates?
The fall term runs from mid-October until late January; the spring term runs from early March until late June.
Do I need to know German?
Most classes in German, but a few Business classes are in English. The people speak German with a southern dialect.
Will my financial aid transfer?
Because this is a Marquette-exchange program, most financial aid generally applies. To learn more about how this program will affect your specific financial aid package, please see the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Do I need a visa? How do I get a visa?
Yes, you can either apply for your visa 2 months in advance or obtain it after arriving in Austria.
Do I need vaccinations before I travel?
No special vaccinations are required to travel to Austria.

Who will my classmates be?
Local students and other international students. In the case of Innsbruck, there are a large number of foreign students (nearly 20% of the 30,000 students are foreigners).
How many classes are taken per semester, on average?
The average exchange student takes 5 or 6 classes per semester.
How many credits can I earn?
This number of classes usually equates to around 15–18 credits.
What subjects are offered?
Business, Language, Business/Management, Finance, German Language, Human Resources, Humanities, Industrial Management, International Business, Marketing, Social Science, and Economics are a few. A complete list of classes will be available when you apply.
Will my grades transfer? What are passing grades?
Your grades will only transfer if they meet the minimum requirements. On a scale from 1 to 5, the lowest passing grade at Innsbruck is a 4 (1 being the highest, similar to an A); however, receiving a 4 does not guarantee that you will receive credit for the classes back at Marquette. It is advisable for Marquette students to ensure that they earn a 3 or better.
Where will I live?
Students are placed in university housing by an organization called WIST. You will be asked to provide broad preferences for housing, but WIST will make the actual arrangements.
Is there an orientation?
There is an orientation shortly after arriving in Innsbruck, followed by an enthusiastic welcome party, aka Stammtisch. The Stammtisch occurs every week as a meeting for all the International students in Innsbruck.

What is public transportation like?
There are trams and buses that travel throughout Innsbruck. A one-hour ticket is €1.40, but there are also day, week and month tickets available. Taxis are widely available as well.
How do I get around?
Bike riding is a great way to get around Innsbruck, and many people purchase a bike once they arrive. Also, in Austria you can get almost anywhere using the bus or train, including neighboring countries.
What is the weather like?
Innsbruck's climate is moderate and generally agreeable; however, cold winters with frequent rain in lowlands and snow in the mountains are common. Summers are warm and pleasant with cool nights, and winters are sunny, with snow levels good for winter sports. Warm clothes and shoes or boots with slip-proof soles are essential. In spring and autumn a few warm pieces and a jacket or raincoat are advisable. In summer, you’ll want a sweater or cardigan and an all-purpose raincoat for cool nights.
What is the cost of living compared to the United States?
Generally speaking, what would cost $100 in the U.S. would cost around $130 in Austria. As of June 2005, the exchange rate was one US Dollar for .83 Euros.
How can I find out more about the city?
Quite simply, there are few places in the world that can compare to Innsbruck. The only major city in the European Alps, it offers a unique combination of culture, history and nature, with modern city comforts and beautiful scenery.
