Students will travel to Ghana and experience the country in a way that will expose them to many aspects of Ghanaian and West African cultures. Students will explore historical and cultural sites including the departure point for the Middle Passage and the W.E.B. DuBois Museum. This 3-credit program is based in Accra, Ghana’s political capital, and includes visits to Kumasi, Ghana’s cultural capital and Elmina, the site of the first European slave-trading post in all of sub-saharan Africa. These academic and cultural encounters are designed to help students better understand the complexities of the political, economic, and gender issues facing Ghana today.
