Who is it for?
The specialization is designed for those who want to prepare themselves for leadership positions within the field of
engineering.
Several objectives underlie the scope and content of the specialization:
- Function as skilled leaders in an engineering environment
- Increase the credibility of their leadership by having a technical background in engineering
- Integrate their leadership and technical skills when introducing new technology into their functional groups
- Increase their flexibility and marketability by having the skills and credibility to operate in a role that is either primarily
engineering focused or that is primarily leadership focused.
- Remain an active member of their engineering profession while fulfilling a leadership role.

Curriculum
To earn a master's degree in leadership studies, students must complete 36 hours of course work.

Professional Project
- Six (6) credits of a professional project. This course is taken three credits at a time, preferably in two consecutive semesters. The professional project courses are not offered during summer.
There are basically three (3) options for a professional project.
- Work independently with a faculty advisor and possibly an organization to produce a research based service or product.
- Enroll in Future Milwaukee as a professional project option, using the assigned agency work as the basis of the professional project, which must be begin in fall, concurrent with Future Milwaukee membership.
- Submit for publication to a peer reviewed journal the findings from a research study, which has been supervised by a faculty member.
Comprehensive Exams*
- Thirty-six (36) credits of course work followed by a comprehensive examination. Students will take: 15 required core credits, 15 specialization credits, and the final 6 credits should be approved by the program advisor.
