Understanding How to Write Your Degree

The correct way to communicate your degree to employers and others is by using the following formats:

Degree: This is the academic degree you are receiving. Your major is in addition to the degree. It can be added to the phrase or written separately.

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree (Major: Mathematics)
  2. Bachelor of Arts Degree in History
  3. Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry
  4. Master of Science Degree
  5. Master of Arts Degree
  6. Master of Education Degree
  7. Master of Business Administration

Double Majors: You are not receiving two bachelor’s degrees. If one major is a Bachelor of Arts and the second major is a Bachelor of Science, use the Bachelor of Science.

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree Majors: Mathematics and Spanish
  2. Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and English

In a letter, you may shorten your degree by writing it this way:

  1. In May 2015 I will graduate with my bachelor’s degree in International Affairs.
  2. In December 2015 I will graduate with my master’s degree in counseling education.
