Career Services for Every Major

The Career Services Center is here to help ALL students
discern, develop, and pursue meaningful career path!

  • DISCOVER is a great tool to help you identify your skills, interests, and values which will help you make intentional career decisions, and build a plan for success.
  • Ask your professors for advice and networking contacts.  Our faculty are very connected and often bring years of industry experience to the classroom.  This is a great way to obtain leads on potential internships and jobs.
  • Consider utilizing our reciprocity arrangement with other career centers at Jesuit institutions.  These career centers might know of opportunities in their region that Marquette University professionals would not be aware of.
  • View the alumni profiles in MU Connect, our alumni on-line community.  Many alumni have volunteered to help current students with their job search.  You may login to MU Connect and search for alumni who work in your field/region of interest and whose ability to network may assist you.  To login to MU Connect, please see https://www.mu.edu/gateway/.
  • Also through the https://www.mu.edu/gateway/, consider utilizing Golden Eagle Search, a job search WebCrawler.  It is a way to search internships and jobs by skill area from over 5 million national job postings.
  • Don’t forget to sign up for MU Career Manager to access internships and full-time positions, participate in on-campus interviews, and benefit from employers who are specifically interested in Marquette students being able to search for your resume.
  • Consider making an appointment with one of our career counselors by calling our office at 288-7423, or by stopping by.  Our counselors can help you focus your job search, give you networking tips, etc.

ask dot

Dear Dot,

I have heard a lot about the Career Services Center lately and I know I should probably go there, but I am unsure of what I should make an appointment for and what the process is like.  Can you help me figure out how I should go about making an appointment at the Career Services Center and what the appointment will be like?

Al S.

Employer Spotlight: MCFI

The Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI) is a community-based agency serving children, adults and families with physical and mental disabilities since 1938. Our mission is to assist individuals and families with special needs to better live and work in the community.

We have a dynamic staff and many available positions.  We have administrative and supportive positions in our HR, payroll, accounting, information services, marketing and quality assurance departments.  We have direct service programs and opportunities in Day Services for adults with developmental disabilities and Older Adult Day Center.  These positions include social work, case management, teaching, and nursing.  We have many community based programs that provide case management and nursing services for adults with developmental disabilities and chronic/persistent mental illnesses.  The Agency also has an outpatient clinic for therapies including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology.  Work services is a large part of our business as well.  We have placement specialists and job coaches that support clients that work in the community.  Training programs are also available for clients to obtain future employment in a number of areas which include food service, custodial, and light assembly and packaging.  A number of children’s programs also exist in our Agency.  We have registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants that work in our pediatric special care unit.  We also have a charter school that employs teachers, teachers’ aids, administrators, social workers, and therapists.  A community based children’s program that we offer is our birth to three programs where therapists, teachers, and social workers provide services for children with disabilities.  Of course we have management opportunities in all programs.
