when will i receive my Freshman admission decision letter?

This is a long answer, bear with us.

The first admission decisions for on-time applicants (those completed by December 1) left the admission office on Friday, January 11, or what we in the biz call "Admissions Christmas." From the admission office, letters are process in the university mail services center for delivery to the USPS. Metering and preparing nearly 23,000 notification letters is no small task. In most years, Marquette's mail services team (the Admissions Christmas elves) process all of the letters in 3-4 business days. Put simply, we expect all letters to leave campus no later than January 16.

Letters are mailed first class and typically are received in the contiguous states over the course of 1-2 weeks (near the end of January). Mail to Alaska, Hawai'i, APO address and international addresses may take a little longer. It's also been our experience that mail destined for the Chicago area may take an additional 3-5 days.

But I really, really, really need to know now!

We appreciate your enthusiasm! Sit tight. Knit. Read a book. Decisions are sent only by mail. Admission decisions are not given by phone, email, text message, tweet or carrier pigeon. Mailing might seem a little old fashioned but in a world of instant gratification, it's sometimes nice to pause, reflect and open something tangible.

I received my letter but there is no scholarship information

General scholarship (Ignatius and Magis) notification is mailed in mid-February. All other awards have a February 15 deadline. Visit Marquette.edu/scholarships for information.

All of my friends have heard but I haven't. Is that bad? good? something else?

Take a deep breath. Letters are not mailed in any particular order (eg. admitted students do not hear before waitlisted students, etc). So much is dependent on Marquette's mail room, the postal service, mail returned because you may have moved, accidental coffee spills (with apologies to Claire from Concord, NH), etc. We anticipate that the majority of decision letters will reach applicants no later than the end of January. It is normal for students from the same school or living in the same neighborhood to receive a decision letter 1, 2, or even 10 days later.

I know i applied after the deadline, when will i receive an admission decision?

Late applicants are considered on a space-available basis. We begin formal review after we have completed admission decisions for on-time applicants. Decisions will likely be mailed in mid- to late-February.

i have my decision letter, What should i do now?

Review any instructions provided with your letter. Everything else you need to do right now is included in the instructions. Some details (registering for classes, getting an ID, etc.) happen later in the year. We'll walk you through each component of the process. For now focus on just the next step.

*Our map tracks admission decisions to undergraduate applicants who are U.S. citizens. International applicants are reviewed by the Office of Campus International Programs. International admission letters do not appear on this map but decisions of U.S. citizens residing abroad will be tagged. We'll update the map throughout the first week of admission decision mailing. We tag each city only once and interpolate "islands." In other words, we assume that if every bordering city has received a letter (so that your city is surrounded), your city has too. Remember, even within cities mail may be delivered a few days apart.
