Physically
disabled students contemplating study in Spain should be aware
that universities in Spain are not equipped with the same services
that American universities have. This means that generally there
are no special facilities or personnel to assist students in wheelchairs
or with other needs. Facilities such as wheelchair ramps and beeping
traffic lights do not exist in most places in Spain. Private homes
and public buildings usually have many steps or small elevators;
public transportation does not offer the disabled additional means
for getting on or off buses or subways. In addition, few psychological
support systems are available.
Should
disabled students decide to participate in the Marquette Study
Center in Madrid program, they may need to provide their own additional
assistance. The Marquette Study Center cannot be held responsible
or liable for the possible impediments due to conditions in Spain
that could prevent a positive and fruitful experience abroad.
