1. Shuttle service available to visitation for Andrew "Keith" Carr tomorrow

The university mourns the death of Andrew "Keith" Carr, a junior in the College of Business Administration. Keith passed away June 11, at the age of 21, while studying at John Cabot University in Rome. He received the Ignatius and Magis Scholarships, and was on the dean's list. Keith was a Brother of Kappa Sigma fraternity and a member of the university's Quidditch team.

Keith graduated in the top 10 percent of the 2011 Greencastle High School class. He was active all four years in football and basketball during high school and received the 2010 WCC All Academic award in football. Keith was a member of Latin Club, Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and was the school Chess Club Champion.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle, Ind. The university will provide a 33-passenger shuttle to Greencastle, Ind., for students interested in attending visitation tomorrow evening. Individuals who would like to take the shuttle service should contact Ann Hilbert, administrative assistant in Campus Ministry, at 8-3864, by 4 p.m. today.

A celebration of Keith's life will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home.

2. New course evaluation tool introduced for online and blended courses

As the university continues to grow its blended and online course offerings, it has also estblished a new course evaluation tool that more accurately reflects the pedagogy and instructional design of these learning environments. Following a recommendation from the Center for Teaching and Learning, a version of the MOCES for online and blended courses was developed by a committee of faculty and piloted in summer and fall 2012. The MOCES for Online and Blended Courses was approved by the Committee on Teaching in April 2013 and University Academic Senate in May 2013. It will be used for the first time this summer as an evaluation tool for online and blended courses.

3. Dr. Daniel Maguire to receive Lifetime Achievement Award from Society of Christian Ethics

The Society of Christian Ethics will present Dr. Daniel Maguire, professor of theology, with a Lifetime Achievement Award in January 2014. The award recognizes creative and lasting contributions to the field of Christian ethics, taking into account the recipient's quality and quantity of scholarly publications; scholarship that defines the issues Christian ethicists must address; and influence within the field of Christian ethics.

4. Attend reflection to honor Mary Diederich

The Marquette community is invited to join several members of the Diederich family on campus for a reflection to honor the life of Mary Diederich on Friday, June 21, at 1:15 p.m. in the AMU, Chapel of the Holy Family.

In 2005, Bill and Mary Diederich made a $28 million gift to the College of Communication, which was renamed the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication in their honor and was at the time the largest single gift in Marquette's history. Their gift was established for scholarship endowments, professorships, research, guest speakers and capital improvements to Johnston Hall.

Bill, Jour '51, passed away in March 2006, and Mary, Arts '52, passed away in September 2012.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Mary on Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Port Washington, Wis. For more information, contact Haleigh Johnson, donor relations officer, at 8-0391.

5. Rev. Don Doll, S.J., photographs on display in Johnston Hall

A selection of photographs by Rev. Don Doll, S.J., a well-known photographer whose works have been featured in National Geographic, are on display on the fourth floor of Johnston Hall. This collection includes images of Jesuit Tsunami Service in Southern India and Sri Lanka, along with photographs of children from conflict zones around the world. Doll, who served as Wade Scholar Lecturer in 2008, is a professor of photojournalism at Creighton University. The photographs will be on display in Johnston Hall until mid-July.

6. Register for Backyard BBQ hosted by Buzz Williams by Friday

The Marquette community is invited to a Backyard BBQ hosted by Men's Basketball Head Coach Buzz Williams, Wednesday, June 26, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Central Mall. This annual event features Williams and current and former Marquette basketball players, games and a Texas-style BBQ dinner.

7. Commuter Value Pass deadline is June 19

The deadline to participate in the Commuter Value Pass payroll deduction program is Wednesday, June 19. Formerly known as the Easy Pass, the Commuter Value Pass offers unlimited Milwaukee County bus rides, including Freeway Flyers and special event shuttles to the Bradley Center, Miller Park and other locations.

The program costs $210 per quarter and can be deducted before taxes to save money. Sign up between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the AMU, Union Station, for passes that will be good during July, August and September. Those who wish to drop the pass must also do so in Union Station by June 19.

The Marquette University Business Administration Alumni Association annual golf outing will be held Monday, July 15, at Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex, Wis. Proceeds from the event benefit the MUBAAA scholarship fund, which helps support students in the MBA program.
