Office of Graduate Programs
Marquette University College of Nursing graduate education provides preparation for professional leadership roles in advanced nursing, nursing education and nursing research. Students obtain training in critical thinking, communication, therapeutic nursing interventions, ethical competence and multicultural competence.

Our master of science in nursing program offers specialization options that include clinical nurse leader, health care systems leadership and advanced practice specialties in nurse-midwifery, children, adults, older adults and acute care. We also offer a direct entry master’s program for non-nurses. If you are an RN, you can complete your undergraduate degree while “jump starting” the master’s program in the RN-BSN-MSN program. If you are an Associate Degree or diploma RN and also have a non-nursing bachelor's degree, you can begin MSN studies after completing only four bridging courses. The joint MBA/MSN program leads to a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a specialization in health care systems leadership and a Master of Business Administration degree. Our faculty and program development initiatives are on the cutting edge, responding to the need for new role preparation to meet evolving health care challenges.

The PhD in Nursing degree program, designed to develop teacher-scholars, is built upon the masters level nursing foundation. Doctoral students develop research skills necessary for the discovery and use of new nursing knowledge and for the preparation for teaching roles. Primary program focus is on vulnerable populations (those persons at risk for adverse health outcomes). Graduates will possess competency in the ability to create impact strategies for health disparities affecting our nation.

Marquette is committed to diversity in its student population, faculty and staff. We take pride in our personalized approach with students as well as the quality of all program offerings.

Admission to the MSN program may be achieved through several tracks.

RN to BSN to MSN

The RN to BSN to MSN program is designed for selected Associate Degree or diploma registered nurses who wish to obtain a master’s degree. Applicants can take graduate courses as an undergraduate if they are current RN to BSN students, have a 3.0 GPA at Marquette University and have accumulated 92 credits. This process validates undergraduate knowledge and is equivalent to testing out of undergraduate courses. Participants earn both a baccalaureate and a master’s degree in an accelerated mode.

RN-BSN-MSN

MSN for ADN RNs with Non-nursing Degrees

Marquette University College of Nursing has developed this program of study for nurses who have Associate Degrees in Nursing and who also have degrees in disciplines other than nursing.

RN Direct Entry

Direct-entry MSN for Persons with Non-nursing Degrees

This program is designed for non-nursing graduates, that is, for individuals who hold baccalaureate degrees in fields other than nursing. The pre-MSN phase includes 50 credits of undergraduate nursing theory and practice as well as 9 graduate credits. At the completion of the 59 credits students are eligible to complete the NCLEX (professional licensure exam in the State of Wisconsin). Students then complete the MSN requirements in a specialty area.
