The Programming ModelMAGIS WE ARE PEOPLE STRIVING GREATLY Magis is the seeking of the "more," the striving for excellence in all that one does. It is the conscious act of not being satisfied with the status quo nor just doing the minimum. Our students will be challenged through our programming efforts to always strive one step further in their academic pursuits, critical thinking, and decision-making. They will challenge themselves to pursue excellence in all they do. UNITY OF MIND AND HEART WE ARE PEOPLE THINKING AND FEELING DEEPLY Unity of heart and mind is the realization that thinking and feeling are joint processes. It is not enough to be academically competent, but one also needs to be compassionate. One needs to live out what they learn in the humanities - an integration of the classroom and out-of-classroom experiences. Our students will be encouraged through our programming efforts to think and feel deeply about the events occurring in their college experience, their campus environment and the world around them... and act to work toward improving their personal life, residence hall, campus and world environments. CURA PERSONALIS WE ARE PEOPLE CARING FULLY Cura personalis is the deep appreciation for and respect for each individual person and affirming the goodness and dignity of each person. Cura personalis is the "care for the person" - seeing each person as someone who is personally known, called and loved by their God. Cura personalis means that each person has a sense of belonging, that all persons matter and that no person "falls through the cracks." Our students will be given opportunities through our programming efforts to develop deeper relationships with themselves, each other and the members of their residence hall and campus community. They will be shown how to care fully about the views, lifestyle, and well-being of themselves and others. WOMEN AND MEN FOR OTHERS WE ARE PEOPLE SERVING FAITHFULLY The primary motive for Jesuit ministry is service. The whole purpose of human existence is to share one's gifts and talents with others. Each person is called to use their talents and gifts to serve the needs of others. Women and men for others means moving from acts of charity to acts of justice - it is hope that all Marquette students and graduates become and are leaders-in-service. Our students will be mentored through our programming efforts in the belief that we are called to service in all aspects of our life, both personally and professionally, and be given opportunities to share their time and talents with and for the advancement of others. AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM WE ARE PEOPLE CELEBRATING CONTINUALLY Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam means that whatever one does should manifest how one's God is working on earth. It is the very purpose for the work in which one engages. Education is not seen as an end in itself, but a means towards greater knowledge and love of one's God. It is the search for and the finding of one's God in all things, both in ordinary and extraordinary daily experiences. Our students will be given opportunities through our programming efforts to reflect on the meaning and purpose of their education and its integration with their personal goals and career plans. They will be challenged to see themselves as part of a bigger global and faith community. |
