Educational SeminarsUAOCSS offers two seminars to students who are thinking about moving out of the residence halls and into the Marquette off-campus neighborhood. Both are designed to keep students well informed of issues they may face as renters, as well as to help them be smarter consumers. Apartment Hunting 101This seminar is offered at the beginning of each fall semester, the weekend before classes begin. Targeted mainly to sophomores and their parents, these sessions teach students what to look for in off-campus housing, how to go about finding a place to live, and gives parents and students the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Crib Notes: The 411 on Moving Off-campusThis seminar is offered in April, and is designed to educate students about specific things they will need to think about as they move out of the residence halls and into an apartment or house. Topics include safety considerations, inspecting your new apartment, roommate issues, utility bills, building a relationship with the landlord, and what to do when problems arise. Students are given an opportunity to ask questions as well. |
