Apply for STAR! Applications are due at Noon on Monday, January 23rd.

Students Taking Active Roles (STAR) is a personal exploration and leadership development program held in the Fall semester for Marquette freshmen. STAR focuses on the information and skills necessary for effective leadership as well as the many opportunities for involvement in the Marquette community. Through STAR workshops, activities and a service project, participants can:

• learn more about themselves and others
• understand their own leadership style
• sharpen and develop specific perspectives and abilities
• determining which involvement opportunities best suit their interests
• HAVE FUN!

Many STARs have gone on to become Orientation staff members, Resident Assistants, MUSG Officers and student organization leaders.

Why should you apply?
There are many benefits to participating in the STAR program. They include:

• meeting other students from all areas of the University
• developing working relationships with Marquette administrators
• engaging in challenging and interactive leadership initiatives
• providing service to the University and Milwaukee community
• learning about campus involvement opportunities

Nearly 100% of STAR participants responding to surveys indicate that the program was an important part of their freshman year, and they would recommend it to others.

What do you need to do as part of the program?
All participants are required to:

• attend the STAR Retreat
• participate in all six sessions, scheduled throughout the semester

STAR participants also have the option to:

• take part in the STAR community service project
• attend involvement seminars specially scheduled for STAR
• take the lead in planning an event from Late Night Marquette
