The Theme of the 2007 Summit was “Just Leadership,” and the program focused on civic engagement and how leadership makes a difference in modern day issues of civil rights, social justice, and equality. By meeting with a variety of civic leaders and exploring issues such as race relations, housing, education, and poverty, participants had an opportunity to develop an appreciation for the complexity of these issues and the leadership responses used to address them. The Summit will connect various campus and community activities during the semester, including the March on Milwaukee, Civil Rights Immersion Trip, and lecture by Jonathan Kozol under the context of how students’ leadership makes a difference.
