

Cynthia Berry, in addition to being a published author, free-lance writer, and motivational speaker, has worked in the area of Change Management for 10 plus years for companies like Accenture & Fidelity. She currently maintains business resilience through Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity at her company and holds a Board position in this practice. Former VP of Professional Prodigy, an organization designed to uplift and inspire women, Cynthia is a catalyst of innovation, assisting in the creation of several nonprofit organizations. She is the founder and CEO of Made for WonderTM. An alumna of Northwestern University, Cynthia has a BS in Psychology and a MA in Guidance & Counseling and is a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society. An advocate of women’s issues, she volunteers with SWWT (SouthWest Women Working Together), WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger) and DARE to Live Ministries in areas of domestic violence, rape and substance abuse. Wife and mother of 4, Cynthia resides in the Northwestern Suburbs of Chicago.
MacCanon Brown is an advocate for the homeless and has served as Executive Director of Repairers of the Breach, a daytime shelter and multi-resource center for the homeless in Milwaukee. Brown is also a poet, and recently published a book-length poem entitled End Hunger, a literary/political treatise on the relationship between war and hunger.
Dr. Kathleen Cepelka is the associate dean in the Marquette School of Education. She received her doctorate in Educational Administration from Marquette, where she currently teaches courses on leadership in the classroom. Dr. Cepelka’s research interests include service learning in teacher education and the empowerment of young women in Catholic schools.
Dr. Ellen Eckman is an associate professor in Marquette’s School of Education, where she teaches courses on educational leadership. Dr. Eckman has researched the role of principal in schools, particularly the experience of women in these positions. Dr. Eckman also serves as Marquette’s liaison to the Wisconsin Conservatory of Life-long Learning.
Empowerment is a student organization at Marquette committed to education and action to improve the rights of women. This year, Empowerment sponsored a panel on sexual violence at college campuses.
Mary Lynn Ferwerda is Assistant Director of the Manresa Project at Marquette. She has had a varied, but fulfilling, journey. A two-time graduate of Creighton University, Mary has worked with at-risk youth in foster care placements, with adults in a hospice setting, and with college students in a variety of ways. Her most recent path has taken her to Marquette University’s law school where she hopes to study restorative justice and international law.
Jessica Gatzke, CPA, is a proud alumna of Marquette University. She received her Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2003 and her Master’s in Accounting in 2004 from Marquette University. She is currently attending University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to receive a Master’s in Taxation degree. Jessica is a Tax Supervisor at Scribner, Cohen & Company, S.C. in downtown Milwaukee where she focuses on the taxation of individuals, estates and partnerships. Jessica is still connected to Marquette through her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, where she volunteers as an advisor to the chapter.
Katherine Lee will graduate this May with a degree in Communication Studies and minors in Advertising and German. Her passion for the field of Communication led her to positions at Clear Channel Radio, The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin and Focus Training (a leadership development company). She is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Honor Society and served as the President of the College of Communication Student Council.
Katy Klinnert-Leukam is a junior in Marquette’s College of Communications and is involved in many extracurricular activities. In addition to having a family, she has been involved in SIFE, a collegiate free enterprise organization, the LIFE Coalition where she worked as a fundraising coordinator and special event speaker, Mary Kay Cosmetics where she works as a beauty consultant and trainer, and FOCUS Training, a leadership development company where she is currently an intern.
Laurie Marx is currently the director of the Center for Volunteerism and Student Leadership development at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She has experience in volunteer program management and grass roots organizing. She has also been an adviser of the campus chapter for Habitat for Humanity and former student body president.
Edie McFadden, M.D. is committed to universal healthcare for all Americans because of her clinical and surgical experience. As a member of the Medical Society of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Medical Society and a member of the board of WMS, she continues to work for universal access.
Kerida O’Reilly is a junior at Marquette in the College of Health Sciences. O’Reilly has acted as co-chair of JUSTICE, is an intern in the Service Learning office, and has worked as a counselor at a Girl Scout camp for two summers.
Jen Owens did her undergraduate work at Loyola Marymount University in sociology, with a minor in peace studies. She went on to teach in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, while completing her Master of Arts in Teaching at LMU. Currently, she is completing a field education placement here at Marquette for the Master of Divinity program at Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, MA.
Panhellenic Association is the representative body of national sororities. Marquette’s chapter of Panhell represents Marquette’s eight social sororities.
Sara Soriano, a junior at Marquette University in the College of Engineering, was the MUSG Executive Vice President for the 2007-2008 academic year. She is also involved with MARDI GRAS and the Bayanihan Student Organization (BSO.) As a freshman, Sara lived on the CommUNITY floor in McCormick and received the Outstanding Freshman Award from the Division of Student Affairs.
V.O.I.C.E., or Violence Opposition In Community Education, is a group of peer educators dedicated to providing education and promoting awareness in order to encourage women and men to raise their V.O.I.C.E.s against sexual violence. VOICE provides programming intended to promote safe and healthy relationships.
Julie Weissbuch graduated from Bradley University with a B.S. in Social Work. While at Bradley University she took a leadership role in their peer education student organization. This sparked her interest in working in the role of a health educator. She then continued her education at St. Louis University and received her Masters in Social work. Shortly after graduating from St. Louis University, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. While in Phoenix she worked as a Prevention Specialist in tobacco control. During her five years there, she created a nationally recognized tobacco control advocacy program for local colleges and universities. She was also recognized as a 2006 Outstanding Alumni from the Bacchus Network. In the fall of 2007, Julie joined Marquette University’s Center for Health Education & Promotion as a Health Educator.
