Although the Department of Public Safety is not directly responsible for the security of the off-campus neighborhood, officers patrol the area immediately surrounding campus, where many students reside. The Milwaukee Police Department routinely conducts foot, bicycle and vehicular patrols of the area. Video cameras in key off-campus locations are in place. The university and the city of Milwaukee continuously work together to enhance the safety of the area and provide crime prevention information to residents.

The Milwaukee Police Department maintains a neighborhood substation several blocks from campus, at 2100 W. Wells St. A Public Safety crime prevention officer works with police department officers within the substation to exchange vital information relating to activity occurring within the near-off-campus neighborhood and greater Milwaukee community.

Additionally, specific Milwaukee Police Department and Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office liaisons work closely with Public Safety to create a comprehensive approach to maintaining a safe and secure neighborhood.
