The Bataan
Memorial Death March is a 26.2 mile march through the New Mexico
Desert hosted and organized by several Army units near White Sands
Missile Range.
The event honors the speical group of WWII veterans who, during
the war, were forced on a grueling march through the Philippine
jungle in which thousands died.
For the first time, the Marquette University Army ROTC unit is
planning on sending cadets down to compete in the competition.
Over 2,000 participants from military units across the
country are expected to participate.
One of the highlights of the event is that finishers
get the opportunity to meet actual survivors of the Bataan Death
March after completion of the course.
