Senior Military Instructor
Master Sergeant Walz enlisted in the Army Reserves March of 1986 with the 492nd Engineer Company (Artic, Light) Mankato, Minnesota and attended Combat Engineer One Station Unit Training at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri. In April of 1987 he enlisted in the Regular Army and was assigned to B Company, 82nd Engineer Battalion, Bamberg Germany where he served as a Combat Engineer. His following assignment was at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri with the 132nd Engineer Brigade as a Senior Demolitions Specialist. In 1991 he served overseas as a Combat Engineer Squad Leader with B Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion (Combat, Mechanized), Camp Giant, Korea. Following his tour in Korea, he served with the 5th Engineer Battalion (Corps, Mechanized) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as a Squad Leader for five years. He then attended Drill Sergeant School and served as a Drill Sergeant with Echo Company, 3-10 Infantry Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood for 2 years. His following assignment was with the 40th Engineer Battalion (Combat, Mechanized) Baumholder, Germany were he served as a Platoon Sergeant, Assault and Obstacle Platoon Sergeant, and Support Platoon Sergeant. While serving with the 40th Engineers, he deployed to Kosovo in 2000 in support of KFOR 2B. He then was assigned to the Combat Maneuver Training Center at Hohenfels, Germany as an Engineer Company Observer/Controller with the Grizzly Team. In August of 2005 MSG Walz was assigned as the Senior Military Instructor at Marquette University.
MSG Walz is married to his wife Holly. They have two children, Tiara, 18, and Joshua, 14.
