Tri-ROTC Football Competition

The Tri-ROTC football tournament is a 3-game event between Navy, Army, and Air Force ROTC programs.  It promotes unit cohesion and morale through competition.  This Fall '08 Navy mens team was strong in both size and ability, due in part to a large interest from the new freshman class. The mens team uses the university's intramural program as practice for this annual tradition.  This years games games were a show of force as the Navy males beat Army and Airforce.  Army started off strong, but soon found the Navy defense to be impenetrable.  Navy beat Army 14-6 and was awarded The Jug as a trophy, which hadn't seen the Navy side for 5 years.  Navy experienced a similar victory in the game against Airforce with a score of 14-8.  For this win Navy was awarded The Boot, which has been in Navy hands for several years. After the games, all three teams enjoyed burgers and brats and talked about the great competition.

The 2008 Navy Female Football Team had high hopes going into the Tri-ROTC Football Tournament this year.  A lot of new freshmen talent and a strong returning starting line-up made for a promising team.  After half the Airforce females forfeited, the remaining Airforce females and Army females combined to make one team minimizing the traditional 3-game-Tournament to one game.  The Navy ladies started out strong going up 7 - 0 with the first possession and holding the lead for the majority of the first half.  The tide quickly turned after some costly injuries and questionable referee calls.  Navy was not able to gain back the lead, ending the game with a disappointing 7 - 21 loss.  Despite the loss and freezing temperatures, all the team members had a great time and are looking forward to next year's Tournament where they plan to come out strong and walk away the win.
