As a Jesuit University, we are called to engage with our neighbors and respond to the needs of our community. Since 1994, one of the ways Marquette University has manifested its Jesuit mission and core values is through the Service Learning Program. Each year, the Program brings together University faculty and representatives from Milwaukee area nonprofit agencies to explore our role as neighbor. Together we discuss how we can create mutually beneficial partnerships to provide meaningful educational experiences for our students and valuable service to the community.
Faculty who are interested in the scholarship of engagement, including the pedagogy of service learning, community-based research and undergraduate research are highly encouraged to attend. Learn more about the nonprofit community in Milwaukee, models of service learning practice, opportunities for research, and the impact these practices can have on our community, academic scholarship, and our students’ education.
