** Special Placement Opportunity **
Special Research Project at Milwaukee Center for Independence
Students will work in the School for Early Development and Achievement (SEDA) at the Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI). SEDA is free public school chartered through the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Students with and without special needs learn in a full inclusion environment from kindergarten (K3) through 2nd grade. SEDA’s mission is to increase developmental competencies and educational attainment of young children as a strong foundation for learning and success throughout their lives.
Six students from Psych 3130 will work closely with Dr. Astrida Kaugars, Associate Professor of Psychology at Marquette, on an ongoing research project. Dr. Kaugars and Dr. Tracy Sparrow, Vice President of Children’s Programs, are implementing and evaluating a new curriculum on mindfulness with the students in SEDA. Marquette students will work approximately 25 hours throughout the semester to fulfill the following requirements to enhance their understanding of the mindfulness intervention:
Commitment: If you will work at SEDA and you have not already completed Marquette's Working With Minors training, you must do so. More information will be available at Sign-Up Night. Completion of TB test, background check, and volunteer application is required.
