Description of Agency/Activities: Aurora Sinai is a teaching hospital in the heart of Milwaukee. They are dedicated to providing personal, high quality, cost effective health care. They embrace a philosophy of love, service, kindness, and sensitivity and work hard to serve a diverse population in the best way possible. In addition, the hospital provides many unique health services, including Acute Care for the Elderly, Asthma Care Management, Audiology Services, Sports Medicine Institute, Behavioral Health Services, Neonatal Intensive Care, Breast Health Center, Diabetes and Nutrition Center, Geriatrics Institute, Inpatient Rehab, Milwaukee Heart Institute, Positive Health Clinic, Perinatal Assessment Center, Regional Parkinson Center, Sexual Assault Treatment Center, Sleep Disorder Center, Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, and Women’s Health Services.
Student Role in Agency: The hospital offers a wide variety of service opportunities. Service Learners may work with the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit, Medical Surgical Unit, Congestive Heart Failure Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Post Partum Unit, and Rehab Unit/Easy Street, Sports Medicine Unit, or as a Comfort Cart Volunteer. Volunteers will spend time with patients and may have the opportunity to shadow therapists in the Rehab and Sports Medicine Units.
Commitment: Volunteer Application, non-competitive interview, hospital orientation, background check, TB test (provided at Aurora Sinai) training and 2-3 hours a week for the duration of the semester.
