Address: WINS office is located inside North Division High School, at 1011 W. Center Street, Suite 102E. However, students will be doing their service learning at the schools listed below:
Tutors can work at any of the designated school site in Lindsay Heights. School sites include the following:
Approximate Travel Time by Car: Travel to any of the sites should not exceed 15 minutes.
Approximate Travel Time by Bus: 30 to 40 minutes. * These schools will require a bus transfer from MU campus.
Days/Hours: Tutoring will happen after school twice per week for 1.5 hr based on needs of tutor schedule and school.
Description of Agency/Activities: The Wisconsin Initiative for Neighborhoods and Schools that Work for Children, or WINS for Children, is an initiative modeled on the Harlem Children’s Zone and other evidence-based programs. Its purpose is to provide children with the full range of family and community supports they need to achieve academic proficiency, gain access to social and economic opportunity, and transition to productive adulthood. The immediate beneficiaries of the work of WINS for Children will be all children living in or attending schools in Lindsay Heights.
Student Role in Agency: Tutors are needed for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade math to prepare students for Academic Olympics program that happens in June 2013. Each tutor will be working with school team teacher and 5 students to prepare the youth for Academic Olympics competition in June and spring MAP standardized assessment.
Commitment/Requirements: 1.5 hours 2 days per week, plus orientation. Must complete school background check information, which will be available at orientation.
