By car: Head west on W Wisconsin Ave toward N. 12th Street. Turn left onto N. 27th Street. Continue onto S. Layton Blvd. Turn right onto W. Mitchell Street.

By bus: Take the #30 bus toward Florist Street. Get off at 27th and Wisconsin to transfer to bus #27 towards College. Get off at intersection of Layton and Mitchell. Walk to 3025 W. Mitchell Street.

Orientation: Wednesday, February 3rd, 3:00-4:00 pm -OR- Thursday, February 11th, 6:00-7:00 pm

Days/Hours of Operation: Children's Volunteer Program: Monday-Wednesday at 5:30pm-8:00pm; Serving Dinner Program: Sunday-Saturday 4pm-6pm

Description of Agency: Milwaukee Women's Center is a shelter for battered women and their children. The agency provides shelter for women who are in imminent danger and need a temporary sanctuary from their abusive partners. The Milwaukee Women’s Center provides holistic care to empower women and families who are experiencing abuse to live safe, independent and healthy lives. The Crisis Line at the Milwaukee Women’s center aims to provide support 24 hours a day to anyone in need. It was established to give encouragement and support and to empower capable, competent women who are making decisions only they have a right to make.

Student Role at Agency: Students will be answering the 24 hour crisis line and assessing the needs of the caller or resident and taking the appropriate action. The students will be trained to be able to offer legal, medical, or housing referrals when needed. As part of their role, students will record all necessary information in the Phone Log and Daily Log. Students will be trained during a 4 week period during their chosen shift.
