By Car: Take Wisconsin Ave. east to 6th street and turn left. Travel down 6th and take a left onto Kilbourn. Kilbourn will turn into the Kilbourn tunnel. Take the tunnel to 1-43 going north. Take the exit toward Silver Spring Drive (#78). Stay left when the road forks and follow signs for Silver Spring Dr. W/N Port Washington Rd. Turn left onto N Port Washington Rd. St. Francis Children’s Center will be on the right. (Approx. travel time: 13 minutes)

Description of Agency: St. Francis Children's Center is a non-profit, non-sectarian educational facility serving children with and without special needs from birth through kindergarten. St. Francis Children's Center features play-based curriculum which helps children to realize that learning is fun! Structured as well as self-choice enriching activities are incorporated into the day. In addition to the education and child care that is provided here, speech, physical and occupational therapies are available to the children who require these services.
Student Role in the Agency: Service Learners from St. Francis will be involved with both programs offered as they overlap within the classroom. The two programs offered are:
Early Intervention/ Birth to 3 age group- Involves service coordination and early intervention services for children aged birth to 3 years with at least at 25% delay in one or more areas of development.
Early Childhood age group- Serves children, special needs and typically developing, from infant through kindergarten. This integrated environment fosters the academic success and self-esteem of every child and allows for mutually beneficial peer modeling.
As a classroom assistant, students will interact with the children, help them participate in their activities and assist with other tasks and projects as directed by the classroom staff.
Requirements: Service Learners must complete Registration Forms and Working with Minors training before attending orientation. Forms and more information on this training module will be available at Sign-Up Night.
