Full-time Service Experience:
I was a youth development Peace Corps volunteer in Bangladesh, South Asia where I taught English to unemployed youth at a government training center, helped develop an elementary art program, assisted youth clubs, worked with deaf children and taught graphic design at a technical institute. I spent a great deal of time socializing with my coworkers and neighbors over sweet, milky tea and tried to stay cool in the heat of the tropics.
Trinity Fellowship Experience: At Milwaukee Christian Center (MCC), I was in charge of managing their volunteer program by recruiting and placing volunteers in various program positions. This responsibility included scheduling group service projects for students and church parishioners as well. Much of my time was spent interacting with individuals to determine their fit within the agency. I also assisted the Development Director with agency special events and fundraisers, working on committees to plan logistics for such events.
Through my master’s coursework at Marquette and work placement at MCC, I solidified my goal of a building a career in the nonprofit sector. I have a better understanding of the nonprofit sector in terms of program development, finance, legal issues and management. I have developed more confidence in my ability to find a meaningful job and make a positive impact wherever I focus my energy.
