Student-athletes are expected to be familiar with the weapons policy and should address any questions concerning the policy to the
Department of Public Safety.
In addition to those provisions of the university weapons policy that apply generally to all students, student-athletes are additionally prohibited from:
- Carrying any weapons on university property or in university owned or leased vehicles, including in their personally owned vehicles on university property.
- Carrying or possessing any weapons, on their person or in their control within vehicles in which they are present, while traveling in connection with any university intercollegiate athletics activities.
WEAPONS GUIDELINES
FOR SPECIFIC INSTANCES
- Possessing unloaded ammunition on university property.
- Implying possession of, threatening to use, displaying, brandishing, using, or discharging a weapon on university property or while traveling in connection with any university intercollegiate athletics activities for any purpose or reason except lawful self-defense or lawful defense of others.
- Selling or serving alcohol, or permitting the sale or service of alcohol, for consumption on university property or while traveling in connection with any university intercollegiate athletics activities to any person whom the student-athlete has reason to believe is carrying a concealed weapon.
- Failing to report timely to the university's Department of Public Safety the presence on university property of any person whom the student-athlete has reason to believe is in possession of or carrying a weapon in violation of university policy or the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, unless doing so would subject the student-athlete or others to the threat of physical harm, or taking other action in response to the presence of any person whom the student-athlete has reason to believe is in possession of or carrying a weapon in violation of university policy or the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct except for reporting the presence of the weapon to the university's Department of Public Safety.
Violations of these requirements may expose the student-athlete to disciplinary action under both the Student Code of Conduct, up to and including expulsion, and under the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, up to and including suspension and loss of scholarship.
