Peace Studies-Events and Announcements

There will be a Study Trip to Guatemala at Spring Break (March 10-17). The trip is sponsored by Peace Studies. To be accepted for the trip, students must be enrolled in the Capstone in Peace Studies (INPS 4997, a permission number is given by Peggy Jones in the College of Arts and Sciences office). The course carries 3 credits and is open to non-majors and non-minors. For more information contact Dr. Nelson Lopez in the Departmtent of Foreign Languages and Literatures or Ms. Jessica Lothman in the Office of International Education. The Wisconsin Anti-Violence Initiative (WAVE) will offer internships to lobby for gun control and to work on other urban peace initiatives.
The Center for Peacemaking offers internships to teach peer mediation skills to youngsters participating in the Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the greater Milwaukee area.
International internship with "MicroConsignment Programs" in Latin America, Africa, and Asia are available. The purpose of these internships is to stimulate the development of small businesses supplying relatively inexpensive products that enhance the health and productivity of poor communities. These will be four or eight week summer internships.

The Raynor Library has provided a Research Guide to support the Peace Studies major by providing ready access to the rich resources available in the library.
The Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA)-Wisconsin Scholarship Committee Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that applications for the 2013 RP & JL Carr Social Justie Scholarship is being accepted through April 30, 2013. This is a merit award (non-renewable $2000 award) to a current full-time graduate student or a student entering full-time graduate studies related to peace and social justice.

Spring 2013 Events
Soup with Substance Wednesdays (Noon-1:00 p.m.) AMU 157/157	This program occurs most Wednesdays and invites members of the Marquette and larger Milwaukee community to listen and discuss a topic with a local or national figure know for his/her academic or practical work in nonviolence while enjoying free soup and bread during the lunch hour.
