Lobat Tayebi

Associate Professor & Director of Research at MUSoD

After her graduation from University of California-Davis in 2011, Lobat joined Oklahoma State University as an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. She moved to Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2014 as an Associate Professor and Director of Research.  She has published over 70 Journal articles and book chapters and her research interests include biomaterials, 3D printing, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering and personalized medicine.

She is a postgraduate student at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, pursuing PhD degree in dental biomaterials. Farahnaz joined Marquette University School of Dentistry as a Research Associate in November 2015. Her research interests are Bone tissue engineering, Drug delivery and Wound Healing.

Wonhee Lee

Dr. Lee is a postgraduate student at Marquette University School of Dentistry (Milwaukee, WI), pursuing specialty certificate and MS degree in endodontics. Dr. Lee earned his DDS degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (New York, NY) and BS degree in zoology from University of Wisconsin-Madison (Madison, WI). Dr. Lee’s current research at Marquette University focuses on developing a novel storage medium for avulsed teeth. Upon graduation, Dr. Lee plans to enter private practice as well as teach at a dental school as a part-time faculty.

Matthew Bures

Matthew grew up in Mequon, WI and did his undergraduate education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Il. Matthew's past research includes conducting a high-throughput drug screen at the Medical College of Wisconsin using IPS stem cells to find pharmaceutical alternatives to statins. His current research interest at Marquette is using a microfluidic approach to grow oral cancer cells on a chip.

Wiley Yao

Wiley Yao is currently a student at Marquette School of Dentistry. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University with a minor in Sociology. During his time at Marquette, he participated in Dr. Baker's lab researching System xC-​and it's mechanisim understanding/treating a wide range of CNS disease states,and also worked as a research assistant at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In addition, he was an Anatomy teaching assistant for the undergraduates and a Histology teaching assistant for dental students. He is currently seeking to further his research experience in working with Dr. Tayebi. His part time passion is producing his own music in a wide variety of music genres.

Ethan Schuler

Ethan is beginning his 3rd year of dental school at Marquette and a new member of the Tayebi Research Group. His favorite part of dental school has been caring for patients and cherishing each of their unique personalities. He is excited to begin working full time in the clinic this summer. Prior to dental school, he had two research experiences. The first was conducting melanoma research at the Carbone Cancer Center under the direction of Dr. Albertini. In his second experience in 2012, he was awarded a Hilldale scholarship for his efforts in the UW-Madison OB/GYN perinatal research lab under the direction of Dr. Magness. Ethan is excited to see what the future brings as a new member in the Tayebi Group!

Hossein Jazayeri

Hossein Jazayeri received his Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University (Spring 2015) and is interested in attending dental school in the near future. He has been involved in research for three years. Hossein was one of the authors of a submitted book chapter regarding nanoparticles used for periodontal reconstruction and has been active in several other works encompassing regenerative dentistry. He is currently a full time researcher in our lab and hopes to complete many projects with the rest of the team. Hossein's interests in the lab include TMJ pathology and periodontal tissue engineering and preservation..

Aatif Nowman

Aatif Nowman grew up in the Milwaukee area and is a first year student at Marquette University School of Dentistry. He completed undergraduate studies at Marquette University as part of the Pre-Dental Scholars program, majoring in Biomedical Sciences. He has worked extensively in the public health sector having collaborated in epidemiological research and governmental policy writing. His research interests includes periodontal tissue regeneration, dental biomaterials, and oral oncology. Outside of school Aatif is an avid runner and foodie.

Brinda Shah

Brinda is a current first-year dental student at Marquette University School of Dentistry. She completed her undergraduate education as a Biomedical Sciences major in the Pre-dental Scholars program at Marquette University. Her interest in research began in high school when she conducted two years of independent research in the areas of CNS disease and neuro-mechanics. She later did research in undergraduate school on the developmental biology of nematodes under a professor at Marquette. She began her research journey in dental school in the Fall of 2015 in the areas of regenerative dentistry and cartilage tissue engineering. Her current research interests are in the fields of oral tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and oral oncology.

Christyis an undergraduate research assistant for the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Engineering Center (OREC) with Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin. Under Dr. Harris, she is currently analyzing subtalar kinematics during gait using biplane fluoroscopy. At Bay Cliff Health Camp through OREC,Christyis doing a case review of children with orthopaedic disabilities and the quantitative results of undergoing a seven week period of intensive physical and occupational therapy. In the dental school,Christyis working on 3D bioprinting and is also working with Dr. Lee on storage medium for avulsed teeth.

Steven is a current DDS student and grew up in Fruit Heights, Utah. He graduated from Weber State University (Ogden, Utah) with a BS degree in Microbiology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. He participated in research involved with halophilic micro organisms in the Great Salt Lake and their growth from differing sources of Nitrogen. He is now extending his research endeavors in the field of bone tissue engineering using 3D printing techniques here at Marquette University School of Dentistry.

Dr Massoud Seifi is an Orthodontist and has Master of Science in “Medical Education”. He is currently member and faculty of “Dentofacial Deformities Research Center - Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences” and “Marquette University, School of Dentistry (Tayebi Research Group)”. The chapter “Orthodontic Considerations in Surgical Interventions for Impacted Teeth” in book entitled “A Textbook of Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Volume 2” and chapter “Pharmacological Agents for Bone Remodeling; an Experimental Approach” (under publication review) show his interest in both basic and clinical sciences. He is interested in Functional Appliances (Orthopedic Correction of Dentofacial Deformities), controlling Orthodontic Tooth Movement (OTM) and Orthodontically Induced Inflammatory Root resorption (OIIRR), and Laser interventions. The enthusiasms in the aforementioned domains of research are reflected in his articles indexed in ISI, PubMed and Iranian indexing systems.

Nikita Tongas

Nikita grew up in the Milwaukee area and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and certificates in Environmental Studies and Stem Cell Sciences. As an undergrad, Nikita studied Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease, a progressive disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system. His research focused on evaluating gene expression levels throughout the generation of a human Schwann cell culture from iPS cells. Nikita plans on attending Dental School in the near future and is excited to be back in a research lab.

Rizwan Bader

Rizwan Bader is a third year undergraduate student studying Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University.  He was raised in Racine, Wisconsin and has been engaged in a myriad of activities since a young age. Rizwan is passionate about his research interests of dental materials and bone tissue engineering. He is working on projects related to polymeric and ceramic 3D printed bone scaffolds.
