NUTRITION
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 Report describes a healthy diet as one that:
- Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products;
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts; and
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.
The amount of food from each food group that each person needs to eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle is dependent on their age, sex and physical activity level - one size doesn’t fit all. If you have questions about your diet, consider meeting with a registered dietician at Student Health Service. You can make an appointment at Student Health Service by calling (414) 288-7184.
