SERVICES

The Center for Health Education and Promotion offers the following services:

ALCOHOL EDUCATION - BASICS

Developed by researchers at the University of Washington, BASICS is one of the most successful alcohol programs to date. It stands for Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students.

A two-step process leads students to do an assessment and then receive feedback during two one-on-one sessions with a Health Educator. Through the conversations that are held between the student and Health Educator, the student is given feedback and advice on how to change their habits or at the very least drink in a safer way if they are exhibiting signs of risky drinking behavior. Marquette takes student safety and health very seriously, striving to educate students to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Call the Center for Health Education & Promotion at 288-5217 to set up an appointment with a Health Educator.

If you have been referred to BASICS as a Conduct Outcome, click here to be re-directed to the BASICS Registration page.

TOBACCO CESSATION

Students can receive one-on-one help to quit smoking from the Center for Health Education & Promotion and Student Health Service.

The first session lasts about 60 minutes and helps you identify your triggers and develop a comprehensive quit plan encompassing several strategies including reviewing your options concerning quit aids such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (i.e. patch, gum, lozenge) and/or prescription stop smoking medications Bupropion SR (Zyban) and Varenicline (Chantix).

E-mail follow-up to give support and problem solve is offered. If desired, 20 minute follow up support sessions may also be scheduled (maximum of 3 follow up sessions).

Call the Center for Health Education & Promotion at 288-5217 to set up an appointment with a Health Educator.
