- What is Public Health?
Public Health is a very broad field, and can often be hard to summarize in a few sentences. Doctors and dentists provide health care by treating individuals, and public health professionals treat the health of entire populations. Public health professionals try to prevent problems by implementing educational programs, policies and services.
The field of public health is quite varied, and there are many career options. Some core areas of public health include epidemiology, maternal and child health, health education, environmental health, nutrition and global health. Prerequisites vary by program, and for some programs, while a science background is helpful, it may not be required.
