Description of Agency/Activities: Progressive Community Health Centers is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) providing medical, dental and integrated behavioral health services to primarily underserved and uninsured populations in Milwaukee’s central city.  Serving the Greater Milwaukee area since 1999, our mission is to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs.  We deliver comprehensive, high-quality health care services to all patients regardless of their ability to pay.  In 2015, Progressive CHC cared for approximately 9,000 patients, 80% of whom were either uninsured or received subsidized health benefits.  We employ roughly 100 staff and currently operate two free-standing clinics on the city’s northwest side, Lisbon Avenue Health Center and Hillside Family Health Center.  In addition, we recently opened the 12th Street Urgent Care and Kilbourn Avenue Health Center located at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in downtown Milwaukee.

Student Role at Agency: Given our recent growth, Progressive CHC is looking to streamline its internal communications efforts to improve efficiencies across all departments and locations.  This includes restructuring the company’s intranet which houses clinical and administrative policies/procedures, manuals, forms and other important documents accessible to employees only.  Service learners will assist in creating an inventory and tracking system to determine which and how documents are being used in each department, and if updated or consolidated documents are needed.  Students will have interactions with staff to learn about departmental workflows and gain a better understanding of organizational operations and communications.  Upon completion of inventory, time permitting, students will also have the opportunity to help design and test the updated intranet portal for functionality.
