Description of Agency/Activities: The mission of Burleigh Street Community Development Corporation is to serve as a catalyst for economic and real estate development in order to achieve business growth and neighborhood revitalization that benefits local residents, businesses, and organizations along the Burleigh Street Business District Corridor. The BSCDC concentrates its efforts on the area of Burleigh Street between 60th Street and Sherman Boulevard. Located within the Sherman Park neighborhood, the BSCDC wants to continue to build on the neighborhood strengths, involving community members to be involved with all aspects of the its initiatives. Sherman Park, an urban neighborhood, is known for the historic quality of its homes, the diversity of its neighbors, and its unique sense of community. Its current initiative is a project called, "Vision of Sherman Park." Its focus is to research and identify the political, racial, ethnic, economic, and cultural histories and strengths of the Sherman Park neighborhood. With this information in hand, the BSCDC will create "A Vision" for the district- and brand or identity for Sherman Park- and then publicize it through the media, etc. The BSCDC is interested in forming a steering committee of stakeholders in the community in order to advance its initiatives, and continue to improve the area.
