The purpose of the Behavioral Core in the Department of Biomedical Sciences is to assist faculty in conducting behavioral research in rodents by providing access to equipment and technical expertise. Under the direction of Dr. Dana Ziegler, researchers are able to perform a range of behavioral tests to assess affect, cognition, and motor/sensory function in rodents. In addition to the assays listed below, the Core will assist with the development of new techniques as needed based on investigator demand.
CORE FACILITIES
The Behavioral Core is a shared facility located in the Schroeder Complex that is available to researchers within the Department of Biomedical Science to conduct behavioral phenotyping in rats and mice.

- Anxiety Behaviors: elevated plus maze, light-dark box
- Learning and memory related tasks (novel object recognition, T-maze, radial maze, water maze)
- Prepulse inhibition
- Social interaction
- Fear conditioning
- Operant conditioning approaches
- Conditioned place preference/aversion
- Assessment of feeding related behaviors
