Community Day: Art and Verse for All

Join us for this fun, FREE, family-friendly exploration of the exhibitions Ben Shahn: For the Sake of a Single Verse and The Ariel Poems.

Art-and-literature lovers of all ages will enjoy a variety of hands-on activities including story hour, spoken word poetry performances, creating a typography print, blackout poetry, and a typewriter poetry artist.

Event schedule

All day activities:

  • Typewriter poetry with improv artist and writer Anja Notanja Sieger. Engage with the artist to create typewriter Prosettes (poetry/letter hybrids).
  • Blackout poetry. Learn the technique and transform written text into poetic works of art.
  • Letterpress printmaking with Bay View Printing Co.
  • MPL Library card station. Investigate the MPL card program. 79,000 Milwaukee students might not know that they have digital accounts!

Parking is available in Marquette University's Eckstein Hall parking garage, accessed from North 11th Street between Wisconsin Avenue and Clybourn Streets. Metered spaces are available on 11th and Clybourn Streets. Additional parking is available in the Wells Street Parking Structure, located at 1240 West Wells Street.
