In 1909, Marquette University became the first Catholic university in the world to offer coeducation as part of its regular undergraduate program. Since that time, the role of women at Marquette has changed and expanded dramatically. Today, women make up more than 50 percent of the student body.

Executive Assistant to the Dean
College of Education
I’ve been at Marquette since March of 1992. That makes it nearly 18 years on my tour of duty here.
My plan is to receive my bachelor degree in the College of Professional Studies on December 16, 2010 (just one day shy of my 60th birthday). Actually, I’ve been a student here since 1996!
There are so many good memories as a student. But, the ones that remain fondest are from classes in which I was enrolled with my youngest son, and with my son’s friends from St. Thomas More High School. Imagine sitting next to your own children while taking the same courses!
As an employee who began work here in the mailroom/print shop, transferred to the Comptroller’s Office, then (after a really brief university layoff in 1996), re-hired to the Graduate School staff (where I became an administrator through position promotions), to my final stop as Executive Assistant to the Dean at the (now) College of Education, I cannot pinpoint any ONE memory that is my favorite
Each department/school/college I have been blessed to work in, has been filled with caring people who live the mission of Marquette University. Many people have said that, once they retire, they will miss the people more than the job. I know that to be true from each time I’ve left my “work” family members in the various areas at Marquette.
If you are an employee, go for that degree. The discipline of studying, reading and classroom interaction keeps the mind actively engaged. I find I am applying many of the concepts, ideas and wisdom I’ve gathered in my pursuit of degree to my everyday work and home life.
The job market is still somewhat male-centric, and your degree can be the catalyst to propel you to the next level. Keep furthering your education, because you CAN MAKE and BE the difference in the world!
