This award is funded by a scholarship endowment through the generosity of Mrs. Mary Gettel and given to the graduating senior foreign language major with the highest GPA.
This is the oldest academic award at Marquette, dating to 1886. The winners produce the best English translation of a previously unseen passage of Latin prose (at the intermediate level) and a literary analysis of Latin poetry (at the advanced level).
Peter G. Theis Award for Excellence in Classical Greek winner is:
This award is given in memory of a former Marquette University Classics Professor whose dedication and long years of inspired teaching fostered the study of Classical Greek on campus. The Award is a certificate and a cash prize provided by Eta Sigma Phi, the Classics Honorary Society.
Pi Delta Phi Award winners are:
This award is given by the International French Honor Society to undergraduate students who have demonstrated excellence in French Studies, contributed fully to the Society’s planning, organization and implementation of activities, and who sought to learn and promote the appreciation of Francophone culture in the Marquette and Milwaukee communities.
Goethe Prize winners are:
This Prize is given to the student(s) who have demonstrated outstanding ability in the field of Germanics. Over the course of several years, the winner(s) of the award must have demonstrated sound knowledge of the German language, scholarly success in the study of German literature, and a broad knowledge of German culture and the history of ideas.
The Gabriela Mistral Award winner is:
This award is given to the student who has distinguished themselves throughout the course of the year, both in outstanding services to the Chapter and the community at large, as well as by their academic accomplishments in the Spanish Language and Culture.
