
Stephen Beall was born in Detroit and graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He earned his B.A. in Latin and Medieval Studies at the University of Michigan, and advanced degrees in Classics at the University of California, Berkeley. Under the direction of Professor Danuta Shanzer, he completed a doctoral dissertation entitled Civilis eruditio: Style and Content in the Attic Nights of Aulus Gellius (1988).
Dr. Beall joined the Marquette faculty in 1993, and received tenure in 2000. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, and the Society for Catholic Liturgy. He is also a Fourth-Degree Knight of Columbus.
