Scholarship Program
This program is offered through the Bureau of Educational
and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is
administered by the Institute of International education.
Selected recipients are awarded up to $5,000, depending on
the length of their program, to defray the costs associated with
studying abroad.
- The French-American Chamber of Commerce sponsors the "International
Career Development Program" for US citizens AND permanent
residents to work in France for 3-18 months. Work is
in Paris or Paris region. Modest costs (c. $300: 00 for visa
and French immigration authorities - FACC does not charge anything

- Sigma Delta Pi Scholarships in Spanish: 10 for study in
Spain, 4 for study in Ecuador, 14 for study in Mexico, 1 for
study in Perú, available to undergraduate and
graduate students. Deadline for applications: February

- David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide undergraduates
up to $20,000 and graduate students up to $28,000 for a year
for study abroad and language study. For information contact

- Students of French: Walter Jensen Scholarship for Study
Abroad for the students of B.A., B.S., and M.A.T. programs.
The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
and a non-native speaker of French. Contact

Program
for Cultural Cooperation between Spain's Ministry of Education,
Culture, and Sports and United States' Universities
The program is designed to promote closer ties between scholarly
Hispanicism in the US in the areas of humanities, social sciences,
and the cultural and academic developments of Spain.
Projects oriented toward the dissemination of Spanish culture
throughout the academic systems of the US are reviewed for
subsidy.
Priority is given to those proposals of high scholarly quality
which will have an important impact upon the field of Hispanicism,
both regionally and nationwide.

The Fulbright-Hays
Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship Program
Please note that this program is not affiliated with the
traditional Fulbright program offered through the Council
for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). The Fulbright-Hays
program provides grants to institutions of higher education
to fund faculty to maintain and improve their area studies
and language skills by conducting research abroad for periods
of 3 to 12 months. Proposals focusing on Western Europe are
not eligible. Application Deadline is October 29.

1. Teaching
Assistantships - teach 12 hours/wk; does not require high
level of French. Get paid about 800 Euros /month.
Can be a student while you teach. (note - one member of the
audience had done this and raved about it). See
also this site.
2. Short-term program: must be an enrolled undergrad or grad
student (seniors cannot do this in the summer before
taking a full-time job in Sept). Can do internships in local
government, arts organizations, private enterprise or scientific
research centers. Jobs are unpaid.
