The Marquette University Program at the
University of Veracruz in Xalapa, México, provides
college students and Spanish teachers the opportunity
to earn college credit while being immersed in the Hispanic
culture. The six week intensive program includes formal
classes conducted by professors at the University of Veracruz.
Students live in private homes with Mexican families and
have an opportunity for constant language practice with
the family and with individual tutors provided for each
student by the program. There are many opportunities for
students to visit nearby places of interest such as the
port city of Veracruz, Coatepec, Xico, the Hacienda of
Santa Ana, and the colonial city of Puebla. In addition,
trips are offered to the famous ruins of Teotihuacán
and Tajín for those who are interested.
The beautiful colonial city of Xalapa provides
a cultural wealth of things to do, as well as, a total
language immersion through course study, the tutorial
program and the carefully selected home-stay.
