A Class Apart: A Mexican American Civil Rights Story

This film’s foundation comes from the 1954 case of Hernandez v. Texas and expands to explore the Mexican American civil rights movement post World War II. Learn about a story not often heard of the struggle of Mexican American civil rights over lunch and a movie.

Friday, 9/25/09 7 p.m. Flamenco Dancing

Start off your weekend with a little dancing! Al Compas Flamenco Dance Company seeks to preserve and promote “the art of flamenco dance and music” through their performances. Their performance will be accompanied with live music by Cajun player, Bob Bundy, and guitarist and Emmy winner Peter Baime. Wrap yourself in the art of Flamenco dancing and learn a few steps along the way! A mini-lesson will be provided by the performers.

Saturday, 9/26/09 All Day Latino Solidarity Day

We wrap up Latino Heritage Celebration with this opportunity for everyone to come out and actively engage in conversation about the Latino culture. Leaders in the Latino community will present on topics of “machismo”, domestic violence, health issues plaguing the community, growing up Spanglish and more!
