Historical Note

Founded in 2009 with assistance from the Better Way Foundation, the American Indian Catholic School Network (AICSN) seeks to strengthen and sustain its member schools/ school systems with Catholic faith-based education while promoting their students' Native American cultural identitites. It is a self-governing Catholic organization that provides professional development opportunities and knowledge for its members' teachers and administrators and cost sharing support for its schools.

The network is comprised of seven member schools/ school systems in six states:

De la Salle Blackfeet School,  Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Montana; founding member

Red Cloud Indian School System, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota; founding member

St. Augustine Indian Mission School, Winnebago and Omaha Indian Reservations, Nebraska; founding member

St. Charles Apache Mission School, San Carlos Indian Reservation, Arizona; founding member

St. Joseph Mission School, Arizona and New Mexico; joined 2018

St. Mary's Mission School, Red Lake Indian Reservation, Minnesota; joined 2018

St. Michael Indian School, Navajo Indian Reservation, Arizona and New Mexico; founding member

Scope and Content

Series 1, Correspondence: Letters, announcements, and materials from events at member schools in paper and electronic formats.

Series 2, Proceedings: Agendas, minutes, and related materials in electronic formats from the meetings of the AICSN board of directors.

Series 3, Conference Records: Programs and records in paper and electronic formats from AICSN conferences and meetings with representatives of its member schools.

Series 4, Websites: By employing the online utility, "Archive-It," the Marquette University Archives has captured the AICSN websites and YouTube videos, 2017-.

Series 5, Reports: Proposals and reports in electronic formats presented to other organizations, e.g. foundation grant proposals, Subcommittee on Native American Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
