Privileges are determined by user status. Click on your status below for details. As a general policy, students (of all types) and faculty/staff have no limits on the number of items that may be checked out. However, all checked out material is subject to recall by another patron.
All students/faculty/staff must present a valid MU ID to checkout any library material. Each borrower is responsible for all material borrowed on his/her ID. Report lost or stolen IDs immediately to Union Station in Room 158 of the Alumni Memorial Union.
If you have any questions about your status, please contact Library Services at (414) 288-7555.
Note: These are in addition to general library policies and procedures, which can be found here.

Overdue ProceduresFaculty/Staff members receive an email via their university email outlining the renewal process each year in mid-July.
Overdue notices are sent 13 days after the due date. A 2nd notice is then sent 44 days after the due date detailing the charges that will be incurred if the material is not returned or renewed in two weeks. After this second notice, books must be brought physically to the library for renewal.
Material not returned or renewed by late September is considered lost. A bill for the replacement cost of the material, plus a $15.00 billing fee, is issued to the borrower's library acccount. Borrowing priveleges are suspended until the material is returned, renewed, or otherwise reconciled (such as by payment of the library bill).
Courtesy Cards permit the borrowing of library materials by users who are not members of the Marquette community. Marquette University's libraries extend courtesy cards to certain eligible borrowers, including but not limited to alumni, members of associated institutions/organizations, and visiting scholars. These privileges and restrictions are in addition to standard library policies and procedures.
If you are a member of one of the below organizations or groups and would like to apply for a courtesy card, please contact Library Services at (414) 288-7555 prior to arrival. There is a one time $5 fee to cover the cost of the Courtesy Card (which is paid to Union Station/Marquette Card Services).
Upon approval, a voucher is issued to obtain a physical card from Union Station in room 158 of the AMU (Alumni Memorial Union). For specific hours, please see the AMU site here.
Please note: due to licensing restrictions, we cannot grant access to digital library resources and systems off-campus for any type of courtesy card holder. Courtesy Card privileges are also non-transferrable and cardholder must be physically present to borrow materials from the library.
